Khalid Mahmood, MP
Khalid Mahmood aged 39, became Britain's second Muslim MP when he won Birmingham Perry Barr in June 2001, with a majority of more than 8,000 in one of the most ethnically diverse areas of the city. |

City Councillor and Chair of Race Relations (1990 - 1993). He has held a variety of posts in local party, including Secretary and Vice Chair. Member of the AEEU, Socialist Health Association and Socialist Education Association. National Member of Labour Finance and Industry Group and Executive Member, Midlands Branch. Has served on governing body of a local primary school and further education college, neighbourhood forum and South Birmingham CHC. He has worked as an advisor for the President of the Olympic Council Asia and for the Danish International Trade Union. He has been passionate about politics all his life; he has been a member of the Labour party since 1982 and was a councillor on Birmingham City Council from 1990 to 1993. | |
